HOW TO USE THIS PLANNER
This planner is designed to give you a realistic starting point before you contact a contractor. Enter the street address of the driveway you want to heat and the tool will display a satellite view of your property. From there, you can visually assess the total driveway area you need to cover — whether that is the full surface, just the tire tracks, or a single-car apron at the garage. Knowing your approximate square footage in advance makes every subsequent conversation with a contractor more productive and prevents lowball bids based on guesswork.
Once you see your property from above, look for any design features that affect installation complexity: steep grades, drainage channels, sharp curves, or adjacent walkways you might want to heat simultaneously. These details are much easier to communicate when you can point to a satellite image rather than describe them verbally. Note the approximate length and width of the main driveway run; most residential driveways fall between 400 and 900 square feet, though detached garages with long runs can exceed 1,500 square feet.
After reviewing your satellite view, use the cost estimator on our pricing page as a benchmark. A rough rule of thumb is $12–$25 per square foot for a full installation including labor, cables, sensor, and controller — though prices vary significantly by region, surface material, and whether your electrical panel needs an upgrade. Armed with your square footage estimate and our pricing range, you can quickly spot whether a contractor's bid is in the expected ballpark or outlying in either direction.
Finally, use the planner to identify your installation window. The satellite imagery will show whether your driveway is currently asphalt or concrete, which determines the installation approach. If you are planning a new pour or replacement, spring through early fall is the ideal time to schedule — giving contractors maximum flexibility for excavation and pour timing before the freeze season arrives. If you are retrofitting an existing surface with pavers, timing is less critical since paver systems can be installed in milder shoulder-season conditions.
